A New Years Indulgence

Words cannot begin to describe 2011.

With the opening of each new year, I clear my head and envision my hopes and dreams. Doing that in December of 2010 was difficult. I had no idea what to expect. In the previous months I had just opened a business, quit my job, celebrated a year of marriage, […]

Key Changes is a Year Old | a look at the goals

Today marks the end of Key Changes Music Therapy Services first year in operation.

What a ride it has been. I’ve worried, I’ve cried, I’ve panicked, I’ve wanted to quit. I’ve gotten really excited, I’ve worked hard, I’ve been enthusiastic, I’ve made some pretty far-fetched projections.

In the early days of my blogging, I compared having a […]

One Size Does NOT Fit All

The concept of one size fits all has always reeked of “easy way out” to me. Maybe it’s because I have a large head and can’t wear most hats (the clothing item most notorious–in my mind–for being one size fits all), or maybe it’s because I view the best service as individualized to fit the […]

My Big Business Boyfriend is Afraid of Commitment

Have you ever had someone enthusiastically agree to go out on a date with you and then have them seem bored and disinterested at dinner?

Perhaps the better analogy would be the relationship that seems stuck. You’re ready to be exclusive, move in, pop the question, but for whatever reason, the other party is just not […]

Music Therapy: Not Just for the Client

4 Tips for Keeping Yourself Organized from a Very Unorganized Person

Something I have always struggled with is organizing myself when I have a lot of things to do. I like to do 5 different things at once and maybe finish 1. I need constant reminders of due dates, and to set alarms 3 days before. Managing myself has become even more of a burden/task/difficulty since […]

Preparing to be a Professional: things to do as a student

Life is full of transitions.

As a young music therapist, I’ve dealt with some pretty big ones in the past 3 years. The nature of our degree is that within a year, two major changes happen. We go from student to intern, and then intern to professional. Navigating those changes can be difficult by themselves, but they are often coupled with weddings, big moves, and more often than not, financial difficulties.

The next 5 weeks will offer some insight into the transitions as well as some helpful tools of survival as you move from student to professional. If you’ve already made the transition, feel free to comment with your own thoughts and reflections!

2010 in Review

New Year’s Eve is upon us in a short 53 hours! As I mentioned in my last post, I absolutely love this time of year. It holds so much promise and optimism for me.

I want to take this post to briefly review and reflect upon 2010. It’s been a pretty tumultuous year for me to say the least. It’s seen a lot of ups and downs and a whole lot of change, but I’m only going to share the highlights. If you want to know more, feel free to ask in comments! […]
