Welcome! You’ve landed yourself at the blog of Key Changes Music Therapy Services. I’m Natalie, the owner, and the one whose thoughts you’ll be reading here. I hope you pardon the dust, because we’re still a bit under construction.
In case you come here and find yourself having questions such as:
What is Music Therapy?
or
This person is crazy
Please feel free to reference the main portions of our webpage, specifically the “About music therapy” part. The short, short version of things is that I am a music therapist and I am running a small business to provide music therapy services to children, adults, and the much wiser than me here in Columbia, SC because music is able to reach people in ways that traditional therapies struggle with.
To give you a little less rigid background of myself (See Staff if you like rigid), I’m going to list what I think is true about myself, and then invite others to input– appropriately– what they perceive about me.
I love music. I sing a LOT. I was pushed to perform, and still am, but I find my reward is not in applause from my music, but in the changes I can effect in others with it. I love people. I think every person deserves a chance to be their best self. I am both introverted and extroverted. I can talk to a person for hours on end, but also sit quietly and read or think for days. I tend to get really excited when good things happen and really motivated to fix when bad things happen (excited example: as I was writing this, my awesome web designer Andy Cundiff posted the banner image. My e-mail to him says SOCOOL). I love my husband. I love my cats (all four of them). I enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and delight in taking pictures of cool colors and textures. I have absolutely no sense of style, so if you wish to dress me, please do. My favorite authors are a tie between J.R.R. Tolkien and Stephen King (yes, I know). I have a really obnoxious laugh. I adore children and hope to have a progeny of my own one day. I worked in child and adolescent psychiatry for the first two years of my professional life. Take from that what you will. I think 1 2 3 Magic is the best thing a parent or caregiver could ever discover. I fancy myself a songwriter one day, just not today. Maybe tomorrow. Oh, and I procrastinate on my own things, but am persistent with others. I tend to wish I was a fairy princess. Friends and guests, feel free to add your own input (yes, I do screen comments, so it will show up unless it is inappropriate).
And here’s a picture:
You’ll have to forgive the engagement/wedding pictures. We don’t tend to take lots of pictures of ourselves or other people.
The choice to blog is a natural one for me. I’m a person who likes to share. I share all kinds of things, whether it be my opinion, what random thing just happened, or something very important. I also want to be able to provide an area for open discussion about what I do, what I can do better, and what you like. I think human interaction is one of the most important traits about us, and I want to foster an environment where that can be exercised freely. Communication also helps produce better businesses and customer service, and that is what I am all about.
This blog will consist of links to research articles that my various Music Therapy Friends send in my direction, updates about the business and where we are headed, and information (and requests for input) about the quest that is running a business. I hope to eventually feature guest bloggers, as well as expand the topics of my posting.
And remember, this is a conversation. I hope to be talked to and to talk back. Let’s make a great first impression and start by saying Hello!
I've had the opportunity to meet Natalie at music therapy professional events. Her description of herself is completely accurate except she forgot to mention — She creates an environment of support and excitement because of her kind and honest heart.
Good luck with your new business Natalie!
We wish to congratulate Natalie on her new venture and say that you could not go wrong with her as your Music Therapist. She is a lovely young lady and what she has said about herself is very true and sometimes she does procrastinate on her own things but she is one smart person and we feel sure she will be highly successful with her new business. Best to you Natalie! Bill and Ceil Whiton
Thanks! I realized it seems like I'm fishing for compliments, but I really just want a round perspective 🙂
Thanks Aunt Cissy and Uncle Bill 🙂
